Christmas DIYs

This time of year is when we start getting all our Christmas decorations out. We also enjoy making some decor of our own. There is so much fun to be had and memories with make our kids. It is a must to put on beautiful Christmas music in the background while working.. You gotta put the love into it and feel the joy! Some of my all time favorite Christmas stations on Pandora are George Winston Holiday.. oh boy that beautiful classical, elegant and soothing music is some of the world’s best… Paul Cardall Holiday as well is amazing.. and for fun classic Christmas music we like Carpenters Christmas and Amy Grant Christmas. So good! It is really fun to get ideas of how to decorate with what we have lying around. Here are two beautiful DIY projects I whipped together with what I had lying around.

First we have the basket with greens and fairy lights. These colors I chose are more traditional. Neutrals are really in right now so choose any greenery you want and omit the red berries if it adds too much color. I personally love a sprig or two of winter berries. I am using a basket I had a plant in to put the greens in. Any basket will do. Now let’s see if I can untangle these lights lol!

I start arranging the largest greens in the basket first and add a piece at a time until I am satisfied with how it looks. I get my greenery sprigs at Hobby Lobby. They are reasonably priced and have a great selection. Choose any greens you want. I did classic pines, a few magnolia leaves, berries and pine cones this time, since I have a lot of cedar garland around the house. After arranging the greens, I carefully place the birch logs into the greens so they stick out. I got these adorable baby birch logs in a small bundled bag at Hobby Lobby for a steal!

I got these fairy lights or Stargazer Lights from Terrain. They have a warm glow, not that blue green bright hue I do not care for. These by far are the best fairy lights I have found yet. Voila! We have successfully created a beautiful Christmas greenery basket. We love to keep this in the front corner of our bedroom and it adds so much ambiance.

Another easy and quick DIY… While I had my stargazer fairy lights out, I took a lantern from my bedroom and put the lights in the lantern and hid the battery back best I could. I took a greenery sprig from Hobby Lobby and hooked it around the lantern handle for a pretty Christmas accent. So easy and magical!

I can’t get enough of the greens during the holiday season, so I keep sprigs around to add to something if I feel it needs some more flavor ;) - like the window candles or napkin holder on our kitchen table.

Another DIY project that is well worth it all.. Mantel Garland! Oh my heavens I cannot get enough of this gorgeous mantel done by Kelly at The Lily Pad Cottage. I love the asymmetrical design with vintage bells on the side. I really love faux greens that look real.

To start you put nails up to hold the garland in place. There are multiple strands of garlands… some old, some new. Start with a cheap green garland and use some of the branches to wrap around the fancier garland to hold it in place. Layer as you like until a master piece is created. Some garland used here is the Jasmine Garland and Cedar Garland from Anthropologie. The Vintage Bells are from McGee&CO. And here is a similar stocking from L.L. Bean. These special garlands sell out very fast. I am lucky if they aren’t sold out by Thanksgiving!

Hope this inspires your Christmas decorating! I know we have such fun decorating with the family and making it inviting and cozy, and I am sure you do as well!
