Christmas Cinnamon Finger Cookies

I am pretty sure by now we are all very ready for some Christmas cookies. Oh my these cinnamon fingers are mouth watering - A Christmas treat sure to please all! They look so simple, because they are, yet SO tasty. They lasted a day in our house! My husband introduced me to these during the holidays shortly after we met. These were a childhood staple in his home. His mother, my mother in law, used to bake these every Christmas. My husband would eat the entire plate of cookies in no time. A family friend of theirs was writing a cookbook and asked his mother to add in her delicious cinnamon finger cookie recipes. Now we have this cookbook and are making our own cinnamon finger cookie Christmas tradition every year. :)

After mixing the ingredients together (below) we shape the dough into “pinky fingers”, about 1/2inch wide and 2 inches long. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, just until edges turn golden. Mine took a few extra minutes. After removing the cookies from the oven, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to evenly coat, then place on cooling rack.

The girls love to roll them around in the cinnamon sugar and smell the yummy freshly baked warm cookies. One time when my husband was a child, his mother said they tried to make one giant cookie instead of a bunch of small ones. It didn’t bake the same as the little ones, but they sure had fun.

Here is the recipe.. I snapped a photo directly from the recipe book just for something different. I liked the text about the recipe. It only takes a few minutes to whip up and is incredibly tasty. One batch makes about 2 1/2 dozen, so it is great for cookie gifts.

We always listen to Christmas music while baking or decorating. We love the Carpenters Christmas and Amy Grant Christmas especially. Oh and can’t forget The Nutcracker of course. My daughter dances like a little ballerina to the Nutcracker. Cookies get her singing and dancing every time. :) Baking these cookies got us in the Holiday spirit, so we all went out to pick a fresh Christmas tree this year. How fun! We usually do a faux tree but we wanted our girls to have the experience of tree picking. The smell of the pine and the joy of choosing which tree is coming home with us makes for good memories.
